Touchdown in the land of the crazee drivers!!

July 12 2007

Well we have been in Nepal for one day now and are starting to get used to things.. this is going to be a quick update as we are suffering a little from jet lag and are still a bit too tired to be writing anything interesting! As I write this now Jon has fallen asleep on the couch behind me! We arrived yesterday morning at 6.45am unfortunately I had given the agency the wrong arrival time of 8.10am.. so that resulted in us waiting at the airport for a while getting harrassed. Suganda arrived right on time at around 8.30 and we were very glad to see him. He drove us to his home in Pepsi-cola town just outside of Kathmandu and I dont think Jon could believe his eyes with regards to the driving situation (cows dogs humans all over the place on the street as well as hanging onto vehicles of all shapes and sizes)!! We are staying with Suganda and his family along with some other volunteers so it is a very busy and happy house!

We had sweet tea and dhal bhaat for breakfast grabbed a couple of hours sleep and then went for a tour of the village before we knew it we were surrounded by kids wanting to speak english to us and it took us about two hours to escape back to the house. There is a power cut here one or two nights a week as they do not have enough electricity so we all sat in Sugandas house making momos (mmmm Tibetan dumpling thingies) then eating momos and then off to bed. Unfortunately I could hardly sleep as it was so HOT so I am still tired today... there is always tomorrow. Today we have been learning Nepali with our excellent teacher SuJan perhaps I will teach you all something as soon as I can remember it myself!! So apologies if this entry is rather incoherant but I am suffering the next one will be better and more interesting I promise!! And I will also get some photos up soon as well!
