So we made it through the road trip in one piece. Utah is incrediblely beautiful - who knew? I thought it was all just deserts and churches! So we had to cut it pretty short but we managed to make stops in Goblin Valley, Calf Creek, Zion National Forest, Gooseberry Mesa, Sands Hollow and St Gerorge! Phew. We managed to get a lot of hiking and mountain biking in as well as a few desert runs.. that sand is a killer it gets EVERYWHERE!! We saw antelopes, deer, a wild cat maybe a jackall and a lot of goblins in Goblin Valley. Gooseberry Mesa is amazing for mountain biking, someone has gone to the trouble of marking out various routes of varying technical difficulty over the rock. Yes I said Rock. The whole trail is slickrock. Which is so weird because I have never ridden on rock before and its amazing just how grippy it can be. Basically you can ride up or down much steeper things than you could if the tracks were dirt because of the high grippage (yes thats a word) which makes for a much hairier ride but definitely recommended for anyone who likes to ride.
We finished up at Mount Pleasant and then flew home from Salt Lake City on Monday. So here are a few photos whilst I get over my jet lag!

That's right, Utah has wonderful State Parks. I myself have had a chance to go through Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks and they are incredibly beautiful. By the way did you know they have a fast road -I think all downhill ,1/2 marathon in Bryce Canyon around July 18 2008. Will you be back by then? (Just kidding - ha, ha, ha!)
So you had a chance to run in the desert sand. I guess I should have pushed you to buy these gaiters I have so that you could have tested them for yourself. I haven't tried mine at the beach yet. I'll get more serious about them after my third marathon in a couple of days - a hilly one this time around, but kind of in my neighborhood, in other words, I already know all the hills by heart by now (or so I think....maybe the hills know me better). Anyway I am glad you had a good time in Utah. Have I told you before I was fantasizing about camping out in Death Valley in the summer and training there (even if it's only walking) for 2 or 3 days and eat only dehydrated food? I haven't read anything on any blogs yet about camping out during your training, but I think it could only be beneficial. Anyway, while I'll be running my marathon in sunny and all of a sudden HOT southern california, this saturday, our friend Lisa Smith-Batchen will be running a 100-miles ultramarathon in preparation for her 10th entry in the incredible 135 miles ultramarathon in Death Valley this coming July. By the way, her first ultra marathon was a Death Valley ultra.
I am on a roll now, but I'll talk to you later about all that running stuff. Your blog and the pictures are wonderful.

Le Berb - that is a wonderful idea! We should camp and run we may be on opposite sides of the globe but we should still do it! How did your marathon go?
